Call for Papers
Summer 2010 Issue
The MERLOT Journal of Online Learning and Teaching (JOLT) is a peer-reviewed, online publication addressing the scholarly use of multimedia resources in education. The first issue of this new journal appeared online in July 2005 and included a number of invited papers from various disciplines. The Journal is now seeking manuscripts for its coming issues.
To be
considered for the Summer 2010 issue, manuscripts must be submitted by
February 15, 2010. The JOLT Editorial Board seeks to publish all works in a timely manner. While deadlines are set for each issue, space considerations and editorial decisions may delay the publication of a manuscript.
The objectives of MERLOT JOLT are to:
- Enable faculty to use technology effectively in teaching
and learning by learning from a community of researchers
and scholars;
- Enable academic programs to design and deploy academic
technology to optimize teaching and learning;
- Build a community around the research and scholarly use
of multimedia educational resources.
JOLT welcomes papers on all aspects of the use of
online
multimedia
educational resources for learning and teaching. Topics may
include, but are not limited to: learning theory and the use
of multimedia to improve student learning; instructional
design theory and application; online learning and teaching
initiatives; use of technology in
online
education; innovative online
learning and teaching practices.
TYPES OF MANUSCRIPTS
Research Papers : Papers that are concerned with the learning impact of various approaches to online learning and teaching. They discuss the literature related to the approach employed and include a measure of the learning impact of the approach employed.
Case Studies: These highlight a particular online instructional setting in which online resources were used to address a particular challenge. They present a discussion of the challenge from current literature, what was done to solve or explore it, and the results of the project. They often offer suggestions for others interested in addressing similar challenges.
Concept Papers: Papers that present new concepts in online teaching and learning. They offer a discussion of the literature related to the concept along with a discussion of the major issues for future research needed to validate the concept.
Position Papers: Papers that describe a problem or issue in online teaching and offer a suggested solution or direction. The position is supported with both a logical argument and a review of the pertinent literature.
Instructional Design Notes: Brief papers that describe a new online learning object, a novel approach to online instruction or assessment, or an innovative approach to course design. Manuscripts in this category that focus on an online learning object may include a MERLOT peer review or suggestions for use of an object in teaching and learning. |
